And so it began...

I'd been thinking about how to combine my obsession with pickleball and keen interest in climate action since I started playing last summer. I hadn't really played racket sports since I was young. Loved racketball growing up in Michigan and took to squash when I lived in Hong Kong. But decades went by without picking up a racket/paddle other than the occasional ping pong night with friends and a hack-a-thon on the tennis court every once in a long while.

But pickleball captivated me. At 56 I didn't imagine myself starting a new sport let alone feeling compelled to get good at it...still working on that. All of the sudden a large part of my waking hours were spent playing or else thinking about pickleball (especially the shots I missed!). At the same time I was looking to get re-engaged on climate. For the past 5 years I'd spent the majority of my working hours on federal climate policy and trying to convince companies and legislators to take quicker and bolder action. But I hit a wall with this well meaning but frustrating work and had taken some time off which is where pickleball slipped in.

I recently woke up at 3 am after a great night out in San Francisco with a friend and the pieces started to fit together. The image of the earth in a pickle jar came to me. The idea of using my games as a vehicle to raise money and awareness for climate. That if you get 100 or 1000+ people playing each match for a dollar it starts to get real interesting. And the theme of 'we're in a pickle' was running through my head. So I got up early, bought a few domain names, sketched out a plan and here we are.

Thanks for showing up, I hope you will join us, please spread the word, share your ideas and Pickle On!
